HVT Protective Agent Pistol Qualification

HVT Protective Agent Pistol Qualification

All drills are performed from the concealed carry position or with a Level 2 retention holster. When working from the concealed position the gun must be completely covered and not readily visible before each drill.

To meet the standard the qualification must be taken in it's entirety, from start to finish. A total of 252 rounds will be fired for the qual. Breaks are allowed only for reloading.

It's recommended that shooters methodically train to to the stated standards before attempting the qualification. Break the qualification up into segments and train those drills. Some shooters may choose to train to the standard over the course of a year, working on selected shooting drills each trip to the range. The amount of time required for the "train-up" prior to taking the qualification depends upon the shooter skill-level.

Gear & Equipment: Run this drill with HVT target FOUR, which contains 4 seperate targets. Each target is overall, 8X12 inches. The rectangular zone inside, is 4X6 inches. The "T" zone located on the head is 2 inches wide and 2 inches high. The four targets are numbered 1- 4 for reference during the drills. The target is designed to take 400 rounds before changing it out, or upon each new training session.

  1. Target - FOUR
  2. Concealed carry holster (ITWB or OTWB) or level II retention holster.
  3. 3 pistol magazines
  4. 300 rounds
  5. eye pro & ear pro
  6. Shot Timer (something similar to Competition Electronics).
  7. *Training Aide (required). Use an old door. sheet of plywood or something similar to provide cover while changing mags. Cover, must be at least 2 feet wide and 6 feet high.
  8. (Optional) small red cones to mark yard lines + ground-marking paint.

Mag Load Out: There is a a magazine load-out table shown above each section of drills. The load-out table  is designed for 15 round magazines, although many of the load-outs call for less than 15 rounds. the magazine load-out table will assist shooters running magazines with less than 15 rounds to ensure they have the required load-out prior to each drill.

Scoring: . For puposes of determining a perfect score, a perfect score will not include the T-box. All rounds fired into the "A" zone =  a perfect score. However, T-box shots are required on some drills. Rounds that impact the target but outside the T-box are counted as B zone hits. On other drills when the T-box is not required the T-box is "extra credit".

Time: if the shooter does not make the par time, annotate with a "T" next to the name for each infraction of time. When scoring deduct 5 points for each infraction of time. Notebook & Pen - list all participants prior to beginning.

(Above) James Bond racked up 3 infractions for time and Jason Borne had 1 safety infraction. Time violations are unlimited. No safety violation is allowed. In the example above Jason Borne would be disqualified from passing the qualification. However, at the administering instructors descretion the shooter may be allowed to finish the qualification test.

Perfect score = total number of rounds fired multiplied by 10 (A zone).  For example, 40 rounds fired equates to 400 possible points . 320 is 80% of 400, a hit-rate of 80% is required to meet the standard for Protective Agent.

Time penalty is 5 points. Safety related issues such as flagging are -15 points, a second safety related issue results in disqualification. There is no time limit on drills 1- 7.

When finished with all of the shooting drills  add up the points on each target and write the score above the head of the target.  Score each of the four targets separately then, average the scores of the 4 targets.

*[SAFETY] *Some drills require moving and shooting. In a training environment, ensure shooters have rehearsed every drill prior to this qualification.

Conduct a safety brief if more than one person is participating in the training. Many drills entail kneeling or engaging the targets at close range. Beware of bullet trajectory and backstop. Check the Frog Blog for amplifying information on range safety.

*Shooters that have 6 magazines  may pre-load each magazine prior to each block of drills. It's also recommended to keep 20 spare rounds in a pocket, which you'll need to properly set-up your magazines prior to some drills. *Tip - label magazines, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6.

The first 7 drills are not timed but are graded. A shot timer is required for the remaining drills.

Drills 1- 10 are performed on target #1, however drill #9 incorporates all 4 targets.

Drills 11 - 17 are performed on target #2.

Drills 18 - 23 are performed on target #3

Drills 23 - 27 are performed on target #4

All drills unless otherwise stated are performed from the holster. Use of a shot timer is required on most drills.

*Scoring Target #1: Drill #9 incorporates all 4 targets. Mark the bullet holes on all 4 targets with a marker or pen and write the score on target #1 (only). Do not add the bullet holes from drill #9 to the score on the other 3 targets.

252 Total Rounds Fired for Protective Agent Pistol Qualification

SCORING QUALIFICATION

END TEST - Instruct all participants to face down range to clear & make safe.

A perfect score on all three targets = 520 + 590 + 740 + 670 = 2,520

                         2,520 ÷ 4 = 630 / 630 is the average of a perfect score.

                         504 is 80% of 630.

80% hits to the "A" zone is required to meet the standard.

504 is the lowest possible score to meet the standard.

*Score each target individually. Write the score of each target above the head. and add the 4 scores.

Examples

Target 1 - 67 rounds fired and 670 total points possible. The shooter placed 54 rounds in the "A" zone which equates to 540 points. The shooter placed 13 rounds in the "B" zone which equates to 91 points.

91 + 540 = (score) 631

Target 2 - 74 rounds fired and 740 total points are possible. The shooter placed 60 rounds into the "A" zone and 14 rounds in the "B" zone.  600 + 98 = (score) 698

Target 3 - 59 rounds fired and 590 total points are possible. Example score = 493

Target 4 - 52 rounds fired and 520 total points are possible. Example score = 444

(Example) Take the 4 scores

                                               631 +

                                               698

                                               493

                                               444

                                             2,266

Find the average of 2,266 by dividing by 4. 2,266 ÷ 4 = 566.5 (pass)

504 is the lowest possible score to meet the standard.
